"Welcoming Spring Party"

"HAWAIIAN NIGHT"

Cool Slideshows

Late on Saturday afternoon, March 17, 2007, the W&M members began to assemble in Sean and Marie's home in Santa Monica.  Stately pine trees lined both sides of 24th street, which is seldom found in Southern California.  With two boats parked in the front yard, the house was easy to find.  Despite the blizzard on the East Coast, our honorable guests, Monica and Tony Chan successfully made the trip from Washington D.C. for the occasion.  One big surprise was the appearance of our long lost friend Daniel Kwok (郭世華) with his beautiful daughter.  Daniel is now in the travel/tour business (http://letstravelchina.com) .  His daughter is in the tele-communication industry.

After the Chinese buffet dinner, the evening program started with Ms. Chan Li's Hawaiian Dance.  As she gracefully moved her body, Ms. Li explained the meaning of each movement.  It looked very simple and easy until our ladies were put to the test.  Worse yet, the men were called to the floor later.  Some commented that we looked like a troop of robots.  It was good exercise.

While we were still high in the dancing mood, Amy demonstrated the Line Dances ... Cha-Cha, Waltz, Rumba....  Suddenly, I found myself with two left feet, and sometimes two right feet.  I blamed it on the wine I drank.  Amy and Paul had a lot of patience and did a great job in coaching.  The younger bunch, especially Kar-Woo Yung (翁家禾) showed excessive energy.  He was able to dance through the thick crowd from one end of the floor to the other and again.  We all had tons of fun.

P.S.:  To Sean and Marie, please convey our best wishes to your mother, being 93 years old.  We sincerely wish her to be 萬壽無疆We would like to thank your family for hosting such fun party.

Ms Chen Li (wife of How Man Wong, the famed photographer) will perform a couple of Hawaiian dances and then she will teach the ladies one simple dance.  She suggests the ladies to wear soft skirts and either dance bare footed or with Hawaiian slippers. Our host will provide Green Lei for the ladies.  Paul and Max will wear their Hawaiian shirts.

After the Hawaiian dances, Amy will teach a very simple but fun Cha-Cha line dance to Latin music if time allows.
