Elaine is blessed to have been brought up by excellent parents who believe that "all work and no play makes Jill (or in this case, Elaine) a dull girl". Her childhood is filled with fond memories of family outings at beaches and swimming pools, tennis, friendly fights with her cousins and David Jr., and vacations abroad. As a child, she was given numerous opportunities to explore her talents, hence piano lessons (moderately successful but useful at church now), drawing and painting lessons (disastrous as there is not a single artistic cell in her), ballet lessons (gave up in fear of enormous calf muscles), and tennis lessons (can still play a wicked forehand). Since dad and mom did not give her any pressure regarding her studies, she truly enjoyed her school years in Hong Kong and joined many extra-curricular activities.

Having left Hong Kong to enroll in a boarding school in England, Elaine quickly developed independence … and a taste for British food ….. bangers and mash, toad in the hole, steak and kidney pie, treacle pie, sherry trifle and all stodgy puddings. She returned to her birthplace, Cardiff, to study medicine, a place where both her granduncle and her dad received medical training. She enjoyed her years in medical school and was perhaps best known for her ability to pass examinations without much studying. She was more often to be found on tennis courts than in tuition rooms. The only time she ever regretted becoming a doctor was when she was an intern. The combination of sleepless nights, long shifts and often an empty stomach does tend to make one aspires to be anyone else other than a doctor, especially when one realizes that the cleaning lady on the ward has a higher hourly pay than oneself!

After completing her postgraduate training in General Practice, Elaine returns to Hong Kong to practise with her father. This is an ideal partnership for both as it means that either one can nip off or take a vacation whilst still keeping the surgery open. Always attentive and ready to help, she has built a reputation amongst patients who require counseling and a listening ear.

Elaine became a Christian whilst in her first year in medical school and is active at her church in Hong Kong. She devotes much of her spare time in service to God, and takes a great interest in leading bible study groups, teaching Sunday School, leading worships, and singing in the choir. She also enjoys reading, scuba diving, Pilates, yoga, baby-sitting, dog-sitting and a nice chilled glass of white wine.
