His Life:

張廷進 was born on October 30, 1885 in Guangtung Province, China.  He was the second child of a large family.  In 1898, his father (張植聲) went to Australia to establish, Kwong Sang Shop (廣生鋪), a trading business.  At age 15, 張廷進 went to join his father.  The company they founded and operated was quite successful.  They were responsible for importing many laborers from back home.  On April 23, 1901, they both became citizens of Fiji, along with three other Chinese.  The five people were:

    Ah Jack, , age 40

George Lut, 左治律 , age 39

Yee Wing, 余榮 , age 34

Ah How, 亞後 , age 23

    Ah Kit, , age 17

張廷進 had two wives.  He had two boys named George and Jimmy with his first wife, 梁氏.  Right after Jimmy was born, 梁氏 was sent with the kids to Fiji to be together with 張廷進.  She disappeared en route from the vessel and was never found.  It was speculated that she committed suicide because she was suffering from postpartum depression and home sickness.  With his second wife, 謝愛貞, he had one boy, Arthur, and three girls, May, Edith and Elsie.

In 1929, 張廷進brought his family to Hong Kong and remained there from then on.  He purchased and built a four story building in 1930, namely, the 773 Nathan Road, Kowloon, where most of the two subsequent generations grew up.
